What is The Soft Cover About?

Books are one of my true loves in life. I love to sit and stew in the plot and characters of a novel long after it’s ended — to chat through the unexpected moments, or theorise how that open ending really ended, and whether we think open endings are a bit of a cop-out or not. Hmm…

The Soft Cover is a place to do just that! I’ll send out reviews of my latest reads, and sometimes I’ll include some general life musings and cultural observations that just need to be discussed.

In short: want to chat books? I’m your gal.

Who Am I?

I’m a South African living in London, where I’ve been for the past seven years. London has been a constant source of inspiration for me - the people, parks, art, culture, and history are endlessly fascinating. It was here, in fact, that I really started to read with such velocity. I’ve always been a reader, but it was on the long London Underground commutes that it became truly ingrained.

In 2020, I challenged myself to read a book a week and started an Instagram page called fiftytwo_books, where I still share short-form reviews. I am also the Lead Reviewer for the Feminist Book Club, and I’m the founder of Cardigans - a card company where I illustrate and sell hand-drawn gift cards.

I hope this newsletter brings you as much joy as it does me!
